Frequently Asked Questions

Where is your office located?

I am located in Riverton, Utah, off 12600 South, one block east of Riverton Hospital. Here’s the address:

3409 West 12600 South
Suite 110
Riverton, UT  84065

I share office space with Lighthouse Counseling in the medical building between Caliber Collision and Blooming Minds Montessori School.

What are your hours?

I work on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, with evening appointments available on Wednesdays.

How long are sessions?
Sessions typically last 60 minutes. We can meet longer (90-120 minutes) upon request and availability.
What if I need to cancel my appointment?

Please text me at least 48 hours before your appointment if you need to cancel.

With less than 48 hours’ notice, I can’t offer that time to someone else who might really need it. I charge the full session fee when advanced notice is not given.

Can I get appointment reminders?
When filling out the initial online paperwork, you will be given the option to sign up for text or email reminders. These reminders will come to you 48 hours before your appointment.
Do you work with insurance?

I am considered an out-of-network provider and do not bill insurance directly. However, I can provide you with a Superbill you may use to file reimbursement with your insurance company.

Every insurance company and plan is different, so please contact your insurance company to ask about out-of-network benefits. I can provide you with more information and billing codes that might prove useful in your conversation with your carrier about your plan.

That said, here are some things to consider if you want to use your insurance for reimbursement:

Insurance companies require a mental health diagnosis, which can become part of your medical record. It is important to know that a mental health diagnosis can impact your life, career, and medical insurance choices in the future.

Insurance companies are not experts on you, your life, or therapy, yet they can dictate whom you see, how long, and what types of therapy you may receive.

How do I set up an appointment?

Call or text to set up a free 15-minute phone consultation: (435) 248-2325.

During the consultation, I can answer your questions, and we can see if we are a good fit to work together.

At the end of the consultation, I’ll walk you through the steps to make an appointment.

What should I expect on my first visit?

I both love and hate first sessions. I love getting to know you, learning all about your life, and discussing your hopes and vision.

There is a lot to do in the first session. I hate that there never seems to be enough time!

What happens in a typical session?

We usually start by reviewing goals or homework you’ve worked on since we last met. Then, we discuss the topics we’ll cover during our session. We will end the session with a talk about specific goals or homework you would like to work on next time.

How long will I be in therapy?

Depending on what issues we are working on, we might meet for four sessions (if addressing a specific issue like anxiety or sleeping issues) or up to a year or longer.

We can discuss this question in more detail during your free 15-minute phone consultation.

Why is confidentiality so important?

Confidentiality is the cornerstone of good therapy! Truly opening up to someone and sharing what you can’t with just anyone is a really big deal!

Therapy is a safe place for you, and what you share will be kept private. However, there are limits to confidentiality, and I like to be upfront about them from the beginning so there are no surprises.

The only time I’ll share anything with an outside party is (1) if you give me permission, (2) if there’s a safety issue (you have or have a propensity for harming yourself or others), or (3) if I’m ordered to by a court.

If I need to share information with someone, I will let you know whom I contact and what I share with them.

What is your professional training and experience?

I received my Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) from Brigham Young University (BYU) in 2001 and 2003, respectively.

Since then, I have worked in Michigan, Georgia, and Utah, providing psychotherapy both in home and in outpatient settings for over 20 years.

I love my work, and I’m continuously learning and growing in my profession with new training every year.

What are your treatment approaches and modalities?

I’ve learned a lot in 20 years! I can’t share all of the modalities that I’ve learned, but I will share a few of my current favorites:

  • Rapid Resolution Therapy (RRT)
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS)
  • Brief Strategic Family Therapy (BSFT)
  • Family Systems Theory
  • Hypnotherapy
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
What do I need to know to make therapy most effective?

Therapy is truly collaborative. We work together to create change in your life.

Honesty and hard work are required.

My clients who make the most progress take what we do in session and apply it to their lives in some way.

Dogs or Cats?

I love both, of course! Here is a picture of Mochi and Dragon. They are almost twins (born one week apart) and have been raised as BFFs.

Mochi is in training to be a therapy dog! Please let me know if you want her to join our sessions once she is certified!
